Our Policies

At Coventry GP, we are committed to providing safe, respectful and high-quality healthcare for all patients.

This section contains important information about our practice policies, patient rights, confidentiality and how we deliver our services.

Confidentiality & Data Protection

We are committed to protecting your privacy and keeping your personal information secure.

All patient information is handled confidentially in accordance with:

  • UK GDPR
  • Data Protection legislation
  • NHS confidentiality standards

Information may occasionally be shared with other healthcare professionals involved in your care, such as hospitals, community teams or specialist services, where appropriate and necessary for your treatment.

We will never share your information inappropriately and always aim to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and data security.

Missed Appointments (DNA Policy)

Missed appointments reduce appointment availability for other patients and place additional pressure on NHS services.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact the practice as early as possible so the appointment can be offered to another patient.

Patients who repeatedly fail to attend appointments without informing the practice may be contacted by the surgery and, in exceptional circumstances, may be reviewed in line with NHS guidance regarding continued registration.

We appreciate patients working with us to help improve access for the wider community.

Online Services & Access to Records

Patients can access a range of online services including:

  • Appointment requests
  • Repeat prescription requests
  • Medical record access
  • Test results
  • Administrative requests

Online services are provided securely and are designed to improve convenience and access to care.

Patients requesting access to medical records may be required to provide identification for security purposes.

Respect for Staff and Patients

Our team is committed to treating all patients with kindness, professionalism and respect.

We ask that patients and visitors treat staff and other patients courteously at all times.

Aggressive, abusive, discriminatory or threatening behaviour — whether in person, by telephone or online — will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the practice list in line with NHS guidance.

Accessibility & Additional Support

We aim to make our services accessible to all patients.

Support available includes:

  • Step-free access
  • Interpreter services
  • Assistance for patients with hearing or visual difficulties
  • Support for patients with learning disabilities or additional communication needs

Please contact the practice if you require any additional assistance attending appointments or accessing our services.

Chaperones

Patients are entitled to request a chaperone for any consultation, examination or procedure.

Chaperones are trained members of staff who can provide support, reassurance and assistance during examinations where appropriate.

If you would like a chaperone present, please inform reception or your clinician.

Home Visits

Home visits are available for patients who are medically unable to attend the surgery due to illness or frailty.

Whenever possible, requests should be made before 11am to allow the clinical team to assess urgency and plan visits appropriately.

Where clinically appropriate, a clinician may initially contact patients by telephone to determine the most suitable form of assessment or care.

Whenever possible, patients are encouraged to attend the surgery, where access to equipment and medical records allows for more comprehensive assessment and treatment.
